POTENTIAL HEALTH IMPACTS OF EXPOSURE TO FLY ASH CONTAMINANTS

Arsenic:
 Acute injury to the respiratory system, the heart, or central nervous system; symptoms of exposure include sore throat, flushing of the face, irregular heart beat, nausea and vomiting.

Mercury: 
Severe brain damage or cerebral palsy in babies exposed in utero; symptoms of exposure include tremors, irritability, drowsiness, impaired memory.

Hexavalent Chromium: 
Increased risk of lung cancer; symptoms of exposure include nosebleed, skin ulceration, respiratory distress, kidney damage, and nasal and sinus cancer.

Lead: 
Extreme learning disability, neurological and reproductive problems; symptoms of exposure include anemia, reduced IQ, gastrointestinal problems.

Selenium: Class 2 carcinogen, repeated inhalation chronic respiratory diseases
