Where does it go?
Fly ash is being dumped about a mile south of Bokoshe at the Thumbs Up Ranch* Disposal site. The disposal pit is not lined. The fly ash trucks come from the AES plant down Highway 31 to Bokoshe. At Sassy’s Cafe they turn south to the fly ash dumping pit. At the pit, they pull up to a hopper dumping the fly ash where it mixes with water to make slurry and runs off into the quarry. Then they return the same way to AES to pick up another load. There are 8 trucks running about 10 loads each a day. As each load is dumped billowing clouds of fly ash permeates the air we breathe. As the trucks return to AES they leave behind a cloud of dust invading every aspect of our lives. But where else it goes is another story.
